Dental Veneers

The Advantages of Visiting a Veneers Dentist

Reasons to visit Texas Dental Specialists for dental veneers

As a veneers dentist, we are able to offer our patients a great and highly effective way to improve their smile. With much of the modern world looking for solutions to improve their smile, there are endless solutions available. While most of these are effective in some regard, each of the solutions has advantages as well as disadvantages.

With dental veneers, there are no immediately obvious disadvantages, giving them the edge for correcting any number of problems. The first thing to know about dental veneers is that they enhance and improve the existing teeth without taking away a great deal from the natural enamel. Other solutions may require completely replacing the enamel with their own solution.

What you need to know

Looking at the example of dental crowns, we know that placing dental crowns requires removing a large portion of the enamel. Removing the enamel helps the crowns to look more natural with the rest of the teeth. With dental implants, we have to remove the entire tooth and the root to make way for the implant and its new crown.

On the other hand, with dental veneers, the veneers dentist will only shave away a minute portion, often millimeters, of the tooth’s enamel to fit the veneers. This gives people the stability and structure of using natural teeth, enhanced by the beauty, luminosity, and strength that comes from placing dental veneers over the enamel.

Advantages of dental venees

A second advantage comes from the fact that a veneers dentist will greatly shorten both the treatment and recovery time when someone uses veneers instead of another solution. Dental veneers can resolve minor malocclusion or crooked teeth. We will fit the veneers on the second visit with a healing time of hours and not weeks or months.

On the other hand, if someone straightens the teeth using braces or Invisalign®, then that individual is looking at a year or more of treatment. After these longer treatments, the patient would still need other services such as whitening the teeth. The greatest advantage that dental veneers have from the perspective of a veneers dentist is the vast number of common dental problems they can solve quickly, efficiently, and without a great deal of expense. Dental veneers can help with mild malocclusion though severe cases will still require the skills of an orthodontist to correct.

A veneers dentist can help you to cover up those unsightly gaps that sometimes develop between teeth by correctly placing the veneers in a way that reduces the space between your teeth. We can even whiten teeth that are stubbornly refusing to change by traditional means. In essence, dental veneers are a one-stop solution to a host of dental problems.

Dental Veneers Fast Facts That You Should Know

Dental VeneersBefore you get dental veneers, you may be interested in learning more about this great dental service. When it comes to covering flaws, veneers are a wonderful product that creates amazing results. You will be impressed with how much better your teeth will look once you have your veneers placed. Veneers can cover many dental flaws with minimal effort. For a few more important and quick facts about them, continue reading.

  • A veneer is a very thin, normally porcelain shell that is adhered to the fronts of your teeth to cover flaws.
  • Dental veneers can cover and improve shaping and contouring issues, discoloration or spotting, chips or gaps, misaligned or crooked teeth, awkward lengths, and a variety of other imperfections.
  • Veneers are normally made of porcelain or composite materials depending on your specific needs.
  • Before your veneers are placed, we will gently etch the surface enamel of your teeth to create a better base for the adhesive. Once your enamel is prepared, we will adhere temporary veneers while your new ones are created in the lab.  Once ready,  the dental veneers will be bonded to your teeth with a long-lasting dental glue.
  • Veneers normally last 15-20 years, sometimes longer. This length will range depending how well you care for your veneers and your surrounding gums and teeth.
  • They can be easily replaced if they become damaged or worn.
  • Dental veneers can be placed in as little as one dental visit or as many as three visits depending on what type of veneers you choose.
  • Before we can place your veneers, you will need to have a dental check up and allow us to fix any cavities and remove any dangerous infections.
  • The veneers placement is a minimally invasive and highly effective cosmetic solution.
  • You should not get veneers if your teeth are still developing or if you are suffering from ongoing periodontal disease.
  • Dental veneers are customized to fit only your teeth and improve the exact flaws you discuss with us.
  • Veneers are very natural looking and not easily scratched, stained, or damaged.
  • The veneers procedure is not reversible unless you plan to have another cosmetic or restorative procedure completed to cover your vulnerable teeth due to the removal of enamel before veneers are placed.
  • Regular flossing and brushing can be done once your veneers are placed. No extra care outside of the avoidance of biting your fingernails or grinding your teeth is required.
  • Normally local anesthetic application is all the pain relief that is needed for a veneers placement. You will not experience discomfort during the procedure.
  • The cost range of veneers varies depending on the location of treatment and severity of dental imperfections.
  • Dental veneers from our office should blend in perfectly with your other teeth.

Improving Your Smile With Dental Veneers

Dental VeneersIf you are considering dental veneers, then you need to know all the benefits they offer you over the other treatment mechanisms that are available. People all over the world are looking for ways to improve their smile, which means having straighter, whiter teeth that have more even spacing between them. There are any number of products that can help you achieve one or more of these goals, but most fall short of achieving all of them with one simple remedy. This is where dental veneers come into their own. Dental veneers are a solution that can be used to fix myriad problems, including crooked teeth, gaps, broken or chipped teeth, and teeth that are excessively stained. There are intrinsic benefits beyond this to using veneers. For one, porcelain veneers require that we remove less enamel than some of the other means we use. For example, when you get dental crowns, we will have to shave away a great deal of the natural enamel so the new crown looks great and is securely fitted. In the case of dental implants, we actually will need to remove the entire tooth and root to make room for the new titanium implant. With dental veneers, we only need to remove a few millimeters of enamel, so if you want to keep your original teeth and simply augment them to make them look better, dental veneers are a good solution for you.

Another clear advantage that dental veneers have is the time it takes to fix most problems. Think about it from this perspective: if you cannot fix your malocclusion, or crooked teeth, with veneers, then you will need an orthodontic solution like braces or Invisalign®, which can take up to a year and sometimes even longer to give you results. When you have to replace a tooth with a dental implant, you are looking at several weeks of recovery time. On the other hand, when you use porcelain veneers, we place them on your second week, and the recovery time is hours, not days, weeks, or even years, as with some of the other solutions.

Dental veneers are some of the most frequently used solutions today, with common problems being easily resolved with their help. Some of the things we see very commonly are:

Crooked teeth: If you have mild malocclusion, you can use dental veneers to get the straighter teeth you want. However, in cases of severely crooked teeth, you will need to get an orthodontic treatment.

Gaps in the teeth: Many people find that they have gaps that are too large in between their teeth. This can cause you to have a less-than-confident smile. In some cases, it can even cause problems with eating and the proper enunciation of words. Dental veneers can be placed in such a way that they reduce and even out the gaps in your teeth.

Whitening: When traditional whitening measures fail, we can shave away the offending enamel and replace it with a thin porcelain veneer to give you a permanently whiter tooth.

It’s Football Season and If Your Teeth Become Damaged, Dental Veneers Can Help

Fall is officially here and fall sports can lead to an increased need for dental veneers.  Teeth are commonly injured while playing sports.  It is so common, in fact, that the American Dental Association reports that the majority of adult teeth that are damaged are due to playing sports.  When you consider that most adults don’t play for the NFL or the majors, it is clear that a casual game of football in the park can lead to teeth becoming injured.

As a dentist, we recommend that our patients focus on ways to prevent injury. The best way to start is to keep your teeth healthy.  Healthy teeth and gums are naturally stronger than those with even a slight infection or cavity.  For example, you can climb a ladder that is solid, and it will hold the weight of a heavy man.  If one of the rungs in the ladder has a crack, even a child can break it by simply putting their weight on it.  Teeth operate the same way. Healthy teeth are strong enough to withstand constant use and an elbow jab now and then.  Infected teeth will break at even the slightest bump.  The best way to prevent injury is to keep your teeth strong by eating a healthy diet, brushing and flossing throughout the day, and having your teeth cleaned twice a year to remove plaque and bacteria while treating any cavities.  If you do these things, your risk for injury will be greatly reduced.

Additionally, you can wear a mouth guard while playing sports.  In organized football leagues, they require this of even the youngest player though most people don’t wear protective gear when playing a casual game with friends.  Other sports are dangerous for your teeth too.  The University of California proved this with a study that found basketball players had more tooth injuries than athletes in any other sport at the university.  This is likely due to the lack of protective gear since they are not required to wear a mouth guard.  The American Dental Association estimates that over 200,000 high school and college football players avoid injury every year due to wearing a mouth guard and if it works for football players it can work for basketball players too.  If an injury occurs anyway – dental veneers can help.

We place dental veneers on top of existing and damaged teeth in order to restore its appearance and functionality after an accident.  A veneer is a thin shell that is made in a lab to match the size and shape of the natural tooth.  The color can also be selected for a perfect match.  Immediately after the injury, we will inspect the tooth and your mouth and take an impression so that the veneer can be created.  While waiting for a permanent one, we will prepare the tooth and attach a temporary veneer so that you can eat and speak without discomfort.  Once the permanent is ready, we will bond it to your tooth with cement glue.  In this way, dental veneers provide a durable and beautiful way to restore your damaged teeth.

Dental Veneers are for Adults of All Ages

Dental VeneersMany seniors don’t consider dental veneers as an option for improving their smile.   However they are extremely effective and can make teeth look new and youthful again.  Over time the brightness of teeth fade and can start to look old and dated.  In fact this is one of the common ways that seniors start to look older.  Fortunately there is a way to reverse this sign of aging. Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way and now patients have a variety of options for improving their smile.  Whether restoring a damaged tooth, working towards a glamorous smile, or simply looking young again, a cosmetic dentist can help.  As long as the structure of your tooth is solid a veneer is a good option.  If not, implant dentistry is a better way to go.

Dental veneers can accomplish a variety of goals including:

  • Closing gaps.  Many people live with small gaps that hurt their appearance but not enough to make them want to get braces. We can close gaps using veneers by placing a veneer on each of the teeth that is slightly larger than the natural one.
  • Making teeth even.  Teeth can grow in unevenly with different lengths.  Having one short tooth and one long tooth can look strange.  This can easily be corrected with a dental veneer being added to the shorter tooth to match the longer one.
  • Covering dark stains.  At times stains are so severe that they cannot be removed with teeth whitening alone.  People who have smoked their entire life may specifically struggle with yellow stains and dull looking teeth.  Dental veneers are stain resistant and will not only cover teeth but also help to prevent future stains.  This is ideal for those who continue to smoke, drink coffee, wine or tea on a regular basis.
  • Straightening teeth.  If you have a few crooked teeth they can be corrected with the help from dental veneers. Braces are an excellent option for straightening teeth, but they don’t necessarily make sense when only one or two teeth need to be corrected.  This is a faster way to go about it that produces stunning results.
  • Fixing damaged teeth.  If your tooth has become cracked or chipped in an accident, a veneer can be the restorative device that corrects the damage and makes it possible for you to eat again comfortably.

Regardless of how old you are, dental veneers can help give you the smile that you have always wanted.  As an experienced cosmetic dentist office, Texas Dental Specialist can transform your smile quickly and easily. We can help you achieve every goal that you have for your smile.  To learn more about your options call (214) 619-6329 to schedule an appointment with our veneers specialist.  If for whatever reason this is not the best option for you, we will make recommendations to what is.  This may include dental implants, dental crowns, dental bridges, dentures, or even a simple teeth whitening procedure.  We offer the latest in dental procedures so that you can have a wide variety of options when selecting how you want to transform your smile.

Dental Veneers Can Give You a Hollywood Smile

Dental VeneersYou can have a stunning smile with dental veneers.  Hollywood smiles do not come naturally.  Instead, they come at the expert hand of a skilled cosmetic dentist.  While stars are smiling on the big screen, keep in mind that your smile can look that amazing when simply working with the right dental professional. One of the first things that you should do to improve your smile is to have a professional teeth whitening completed. This can dramatically improve your smile without costing a lot of time or money.  Bright white teeth are one of the first things that people notice when you smile so by having this procedure done you can instantly improve your appearance.

If there are severe stains on your teeth, whitening alone may not produce the results you are looking for.  Dental veneers are ideal for covering difficult to remove stains and are commonly used in the Hollywood scene.  They are also used for the following:

  • Correct damaged teeth. If your tooth has gotten cracked or chipped, it can be corrected and restored to full functionality and appearance by using a veneer.  Since it is placed directly on top of the tooth, the natural one must still be in place.  Dental implants are a better solution for when a tooth needs to be replaced.
  • Close gaps.  Small gaps in the teeth can be closed by using dental veneers.  This is much faster than wearing braces.  Instead of spending two years to correct your smile, it can be done in a matter of months.
  • Straighten teeth.  When teeth are slightly crooked, their appearance can be improved with veneers so that it looks straight without going through a lengthy process.
  • Make teeth even.  If you have one tooth that is longer than the other, this can be corrected with cosmetic dentistry.  You can have a completely uniform smile using veneers.

The reason why Hollywood smiles look so glamorous is because their teeth are perfectly symmetrical, even, straight, bright, and white.  This is not normal or natural.  Most people have some level of imperfections whether caused by drinking too much coffee or having cavities as a child. The good news is that all of these imperfections, whether big or small can be corrected by an experienced dentist.

If dental veneers are not right for you, there are other options that can be considered such as implant dentistry, crowns, bridges, Invisalign, and even orthodontics. All are viable options for improving a smile and can work together or separately to help you achieve your smile goals.  When discussing options we will review things like how long each procedure will take, what the cost will be, and the recovery time so that you can select the option that works best for your lifestyle and future plans.

How Dental Veneers Can Fix Damaged Teeth

Dental VeneersIf you have been in an accident dental veneers can fix your damaged teeth.  Millions of people are in accidents every year.  Whether a slip and fall, car accident, or sports injury, it is common for teeth to get knocked out, cracked or chipped.  As a dentist, we can repair and restore your teeth after they are injured. Many patients ask us if their tooth can be saved after it has been knocked out.  The answer is, sometimes – yes.  If your tooth is knocked out, immediately put it into a glass of milk and call our dentist office to make an emergency appointment.  Visiting the emergency room won’t help as they are not trained on how to correct teeth.  We will do everything we can to salvage your tooth and if it is not possible we can offer alternative solutions like dental implants, bridges, or dentures.

Dental Veneers Fix Cracked and Chipped Teeth

If your tooth was injured in an accident and has become cracked or chipped, we can use dental veneers to correct it.  Veneers are an excellent option for fixing problems with your teeth because the process is fairly fast.  They are placed on top of your existing teeth, so you don’t have to worry about massive time delays due to your gums healing.  If we determine that a veneer can correct your damaged tooth, we will make a mold of your mouth and have one created in the lab.

Beyond fixing teeth, veneers can also improve the appearance of your teeth.  They can be used to close gaps and make teeth even.  Even crooked teeth can be helped with the use of veneers.  Patients with dark stains can have them covered up, and smiles are made youthful again.  In other words, if you are having one tooth fixed you may want to get all of your front teeth done at the same time.  You can have the smile you always wanted in the process.

Before dental veneers are placed onto your teeth, they must be created and shaped within the lab. As a cosmetic dentist, we may make minor changes to the veneer but most of the shaping will be done by a dental technician.  Your existing teeth will be filed down so that when the veneer is placed on top of it, the tooth will be flat with the surrounding ones.  This is an important step for ensuring that your new tooth looks natural.  A cement glue is used to bond the tooth and veneer together.  Once it hardens you will be able to eat and drink like normal, with your dentist’s permission, and care for it like you would all of your other teeth.

Once you have been in an accident and had your teeth damaged, it is important to strengthen them so that they are less likely to become damaged again.  You can do this by having your teeth cleaned at least twice a year, brushing after meals with a fluoride toothpaste, using floss daily, and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash. This combined with a healthy diet will strengthen your teeth and prevent injury.
