Cosmetic Dentist Treatments

  • Teeth Whitening: Our teeth whitening process uses advanced bleaching agents to whiten teeth to their original or a whiter shade. These materials will remove any stains and discoloration. When patients visit, we will use a shading chart to determine which color is the right choice.
  • Dental Bonding: During dental bonding, our cosmetic dentist will apply a tooth-colored resin to certain areas of your teeth to improve coloring, fill in gaps or chips, or cover cracks. After application, the bonding will be cured to a hardened finish and shaped to look natural with the other teeth.
  • Teeth Contouring: Using our advanced dental tools, we will gently shape the enamel of poorly structured teeth to improve their appearance. We will seal off any vulnerable areas following the shaping.
  • Veneers: Our dental veneers are thin, porcelain shells that cover imperfections on visible teeth. We will cement them to the front of teeth for a permanent improvement to discolored, crooked, or poorly shaped teeth. Veneers can also help with gap issues.
  • Dental Bridges: We will anchor the dental bridges will in place by two crowns that cover the abutment teeth. A realistic-looking dental prosthetic will go in the gap from the missing tooth and attach to the crowned teeth for permanency.
  • Dental Implants: Our dental implants are our most permanent replacement option. The implant is a titanium rod placed into the jawbone in the space left by the missing tooth. The titanium and bone will fuse together for a secure false root. A tooth-colored prosthetic will be attached to the artificial root for a natural-looking replacement that will last forever.
  • Smile Makeovers: Our cosmetic dentist smile makeovers involve a combination of these services to give you the flawless smile you desire. A smile makeover may require a few visits to our office to acquire the best results.

Candidates for these cosmetic dentist improvements include people with good dental health and regular checkups who wish to improve their smile drastically. If you have existing dental problems like cavities or infections, we will address and fix these issues before we attempt to improve the appearance of your smile. Your proper dental health is more important than cosmetic improvements. Without good oral hygiene, your improvements will not offer you the long-lasting and attractive results you want. Is Cosmetic Dentistry Really the Solution to My Smile Problems?

Cosmetic DentistryAs a cosmetic dentistry office in Plano, we are in the business of transforming smiles and do so on a daily basis. We love what we do because it gives us the opportunity to give our clients a fresh start, a renewed confidence that really shines through. Still, many people call asking if cosmetic dentistry is really any different from regular dentistry and what we can do to help them. We understand that there is a great deal of confusion surrounding what we can and cannot do, which is why we focus on patient education.

Bottom line: As a cosmetic dentist, we can give you a beautiful smile and correct most aesthetic problems you have with your smile. How we do so and what the exact results will be, depend on the condition of your teeth right now.

Ways a Cosmetic Dentist Can Help You:

  • Close gaps in between your teeth
  • Whiten your teeth and remove deep stains
  • Make crooked teeth appear straighter
  • Change the shape or size of your teeth
  • Promote a strong and healthy jawbone after tooth loss
  • Replace your missing teeth
  • Restore your damaged teeth

In our Plano cosmetic dentistry office, we have a variety of tools to accomplish these goals. Our objective is to solve any challenges you are facing in a way that looks entirely natural. We want your replacement teeth or restorations to look like natural ones, so no one will know you ever had a dental health issue.  Whether you were in an accident or lost a tooth, we can help repair the damage. If we are completing a full smile makeover, our goal is to give you a smile that looks so beautiful and so natural, people will think you were born with it. Our skill and expertise allow us to make you look as though you were born with the most brilliant, beautiful and perfect smile.

A few of the ways we do so is with:

  • Dental bonding. For a fast restoration, we can place bonding material on the surface of your tooth, shape, and harden it. This is an excellent solution if you have a cracked or chipped tooth that needs to be fixed immediately.
  • Dental veneers. Our patients love dental veneers because they can solve virtually all aesthetic issues. They can cover dark stains, close gaps in between teeth, change their shape and size, and create a truly stunning Hollywood-style smile.
  • Dental crowns. When teeth are more severely damaged or much of the enamel is missing, a crown can be placed around the tooth instead. A crown is a cap created using tooth-colored porcelain or ceramic. It works incredibly well when your tooth structure is missing.
  • Teeth whitening. This is one of the easiest ways we can improve your smile in our cosmetic dentistry office. Whitening your teeth can make you look younger and healthier. Plus, it is very affordable.
  • Dental implants. We can replace your teeth and strengthen your jawbone. By placing dental implants, we can restore your smile, appearance, and the functionality of your missing teeth.

There is so much we can do for you in our Plano cosmetic dentistry office. To learn more, call and schedule an appointment.

Visit a Cosmetic Dentist for the Health of Your Gums

Cosmetic DentistryFor cosmetic dentistry, how your teeth look is equally as important as how well they function. Cosmetic dentistry as a whole is largely focused on the aesthetics of the mouth, and so we have honed our skills to ensure that you have the brightest, whitest smile possible. Our techniques allow for straighter teeth that build confident, radiant smiles. At the same time, there is a significant amount of cross treatment. Replacing a lost tooth with a dental implant, for example, helps with the overall health of the jawbone. However, most people simply associate us with the techniques that have become our everyday staple. These include teeth whitening, replacement of lost enamel with dental crowns or ceramic veneers, replacing lost teeth with dentures, bridges, and dental implants, and straightening your teeth using braces or Invisalign®.

Apart from the techniques that we use on a daily basis there are a number of other, less well known, procedures that also help to improve a persons' appearance. What we have found is quite a few of the procedures that are done for medical and dental health reasons also have aesthetic implications.

If you are someone that has not considered the benefits of visiting a cosmetic dentistry, it is important to understand that we do perform the dental work required to keep your teeth in good health.  However, we do so in a way that improves the appearance of your teeth at the same time.  It is not necessary to only treat the health of your teeth or to only deal with their appearance.  When you visit our dental office, you can receive the benefits of both in one treatment. For example, one of the ways we can keep you healthy is by performing restorations.  If your tooth becomes even slightly cracked, it is likely to become infected, creating discomfort for you and leading to the potential need for a root canal.  By restoring the tooth using a solution like bonding, veneers or crowns, we can protect your tooth while improving its appearance.  When you visit our office, you can be confident that once the restoration has been completed, it will look so natural that you will not be able to tell the difference between your natural teeth and the newly improved ones.

A perfect example of how a cosmetic dentist can improve your appearance and your health is the dental crown.  We can place dental crowns around your tooth or teeth to protect them.  If you have suffered from enamel erosion, this procedure can make it possible to eat without feeling sensitivity.  Simultaneously, a dental crown can be used to close gaps in between teeth, cover dark stains, and make changes to their overall shape and size.  This one solution can be used to help you feel healthier, protect your teeth, and to improve the way that they look.  All of this is possible when you visit our cosmetic dentist office.  The crowns we create will be made using a tooth-colored material so that they blend in and improve the way that you look, instead of standing out.  If you think that your tooth is infected, or you are suffering from sensitivity, we encourage you to visit our dental office and discuss what you do not like about your appearance at the same time so that we can address both issues.

The History of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Value of Cement

Cosmetic DentistryIn the past cosmetic dentistry was more of an idea than a reality. In the past, a dentist focused on treating infection and oral health but was unable to do very much for the appearance of teeth.  If a tooth was infected, it had a higher likelihood of being pulled than restored.  In the past thirty years this has all changed.  We can now offer patients multiple ways to restore and replace teeth so that their smile stays naturally beautiful. Dental options started to really open up in the 1980s with the invention of resin cement.  Prior to this, dentists understood that bonding would be beneficial for securing things to the surface of the tooth but weren’t able to do so on a wide scale.  When resin cement was invented, it allowed a dentist to bond a ceramic crown to the natural tooth in order to restore it in a durable way.  Previously silver amalgam crowns were more popular because ceramic simply didn’t have the staying power that it does now.  As more and more patients used ceramic crowns to improve their teeth, other solutions like dental veneers became available.

Following the wide adoption of resin cement, the dental bridge was invented in the 1990s.  A bridge is secured in place by using a crown on each side of it. The crowns need to be incredibly durable in order to hold the bridge in place, resin cement makes this possible.  In the 90s, patients finally had a way to replace a tooth other than wearing dentures. While seemingly simple, the invention of resin cement made it possible for a cosmetic dentist to replace a missing tooth, restore damaged ones, and change the appearance of teeth. Cosmetic dentistry has never been the same.

Smile makeovers were previously an impossibility.  These procedures along with dental implants have now made it possible for patients to transform their appearance and their smile. Dental implants are a more recent innovation that has been gaining in popularity.  Unlike a dental bridge, implants can replace a tooth without relying on the surrounding teeth.  In this procedure, we implant a metal post under the gums and secure it to the jawbone.  The bone and metal will fuse together and as they do, a new root system is created for a dental crown to be attached to. This is a fantastic solution for patients that want to improve the long-term functionality of their smiles.

As a cosmetic dentist, we can meet with patients to determine what they don’t like about their smile and create a customized treatment plan for improving it.  For example, teeth that are stained can be covered with a dental veneer.  If a tooth is damaged, it can be corrected and protected by using a natural looking dental crown and missing teeth can be replaced with implants.  Cosmetic dentistry makes it possible for us to close gaps, straighten teeth, make teeth even and more.  The possibilities are endless, all thanks to innovation in dentistry.

The Latest Trend in Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic DentistryTechnology is always changing, and cosmetic dentistry is no different. As dental technology improves, we are able to help more patients and complete procedure in a more effective and time efficient way. Things like lasers have improved results and decreased healing and recovery times. Texas Dental Specialists are experts at creating gorgeous smiles and using the latest technology is part of that. It wasn’t too long ago that people were stuck with their natural smiles. Apart from having teeth pulled, cavities filled, and crowns placed, there wasn’t a lot that a dentist could do. When people lost their teeth, they were stuck with dentures or no teeth at all. Modern technology has changed all of this and made dentistry as much of an art as it is a science. Now skilled dentists can transform smiles and give patients what they want.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the most fantastic advancements in cosmetic dentistry. This is a three part system that literally replaces lost or unsightly teeth with synthetic ones that look and feel natural. Patients have complete functionality with implants and are able to eat what they want and clean their teeth like normal. There is no extra work.

The process of dental implants is three fold. A metal piece is installed underneath the gum line and screwed into the jaw bone. Over time, that piece will fuse to the bone which makes it extremely secure. A second metal piece is attached at the surface of the gum line, and a synthetic tooth is attached to it. Once completed, teeth are complete restored, and there is no way to tell that they are not the original teeth.

Implant technology has also revolutionized dentures. Patients that have dentures and are concerned about them popping out or floating in their mouth can now use implant technology to secure them in place. This is faster than having a full mouth of dental implants installed and delivers higher functionality than dentures alone ever could.

Laser Technology

Lasers have also revolutionized dentistry. Laser technology is what has enabled in-office teeth whitening procedures to become so effective. When we place the whitening gel onto your teeth and activate it with a laser, the teeth can whiten by up to eight shades in an hour. In one single visit, you can accomplish what used to take months.

Lasers are also being used in teeth cleaning and cosmetic dentistry procedures to increase the accuracy of the dental work and decrease any potential pain. When lasers are used, patients will have a faster recovery time frame.

Patients that want straight teeth used to be forced into metal braces. While effective, many adult patients are uncomfortable with how they look. Metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands, can make it difficult to portray a professional image. Invisalign changed this by using modern technology to give patients an alternative. Now people can straighten their teeth while wearing a clear aligner that is unnoticeable to the general public.

Technology has, and will continue, to change the face of cosmetic dentistry. We are able to perform additional procedures in less time with less pain because of these advancements. The team at Texas Dental Specialists is proud to offer these services to Texas patients. Call us today to learn how we can transform your smile.
